Billy’s Courtyard

Billy’s Courtyard

7 out of 10 stars (7 / 10)

Now that we have visited all the cafes in our local strip, we decided to venture a little further to try a new cafe. We’d both seen a little cafe at Tooronga Village in Glen Iris that looked interesting so we headed there on a Thursday morning (while we were still on holiday during the Christmas break period).

When we arrived the cafe was unfortunately shut, so we decided to wander around the complex to see if anything else was open. Up in the courtyard facing Toorak Rd we found a cafe called Billy’s Courtyard that was open and quite busy with a mixture of local residents from the apartments, and workers from the nearby office buildings. We took a seat inside and were promptly given menus and water.

There were a few items on the menu that sounded interesting and after hailing the waiter to place our order we settled in. Trent’s iced latte came quickly and was large and strong. Our meals followed not too long after. Trent had ordered the Pancakes Stack (house made buttermilk pancakes served with mixed berry compote, maple syrup and vanilla ice cream) and I ordered the Smashed Avocado (poached eggs on smashed avocado, feta, mixed seeds and multigrain or sourdough toast).

The meals were presented very nicely and both tasted good. Trent’s pancakes had a good flavour but were a little underwhelming (and Trent would have preferred more ice cream…and more syrup). My smashed avocado was also nice but not anything particularly special.

Overall we were impressed with Billy’s Courtyard, but didn’t think it was good enough that we would come to it instead of our more local cafes. We also thought the iced latte was quite steep at $6. We rated it 7 stars.
