During a winter weekend spent down at Portsea we decided to have dinner on the Saturday night at Hotel Sorrento. The Portsea Pub was closed for renovations and I’d never been to Hotel Sorrento before so we thought it would be a nice idea.
Even in winter (and possibly due to the Portsea Pub renovations) the hotel was busy enough that only an early 6.15pm booking was available. When we arrived we were shown to a table in a great spot right at a window with a glimpse of the bay. The bar was full and the restaurant tables were starting to fill up as well. While we were being taken to our table the waitress explained that food and drink orders were taken at the bar so after a quick look through the main menu and the specials we decided on some pub classics and put in our order.
We ordered the salt and pepper calamari for entree and the chicken parma for main and shared both. I had an espresso martini while we waited for our food and read the wine list that had a lot of local wines which is something I like to see. We both really enjoyed the meals and the experience as a whole.
As we left at around 7.15pm the night was just starting at Hotel Sorrento as families with young children continued to arrive for their evening meal. We were happy to head back to the house with full stomaches and an open fire place awaiting us.
We are giving the Hotel Sorrento 8 stars.
