Recently Mum was in town visiting my sister so we organised to join them for dinner out on Saturday night. I was in the mood for some Italian and after some googling I came across Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana in the CBD. It has a really cosy feel to it along with the classic Melbourne laneway location on Manchester Lane just off Colins Street.
The menu was classic Italian making it difficult to choose. Juliet chose the Fettuccine Pork Belly & Porcini (fresh fettuccine with pork belly, mushrooms, porcini, pumpkin mousse, walnuts, sage, parmigiano). This one was also on my short list. Mum had Gnocchi Sorrentina (homemade potatoes gnocchi, Napoli sauce, mozzarella fiordilatte, basil. Baked au graten) and Virginia and I shared a starter dish, Misto Fritto (traditional bolognese, spinach, and truffles with mushrooms arancini, and panelle (fried chickpeas flour)) and a main dish, Pappardelle Fungi e Tartufo (fresh pappardelle, mushrooms, truffle sauce, parsley). We also shared a side of chips for the table.
We all enjoyed our meals with the quality of the food being representative of the place itself, nice but not amazing.
You would think after all that food that dessert would be out of the question but our dessert stomaches were still keen. Juliet ordered an affogato, Mum ordered the Tiramisu, Virginia ordered the triple chocolate mousse, and I had some of both Mum’s and Virginia’s 🙂
We all enjoyed our food and the service was friendly. Overall it was a nice experience. We gave Maccaroni Trattoria Italiana 7 stars a perfectly enjoyable night out.
