On the last night of our Hobart weekend Naomi and Tim took us out to dinner with their family at Mezethes Greek Taverna in Salamanca Square. Virginia and I really like Greek food so this was a great pick for us. We were early and the restaurant was mostly empty which is not usually a good thing, but by the time we left I’m not sure there was a free table.
Naomi had told us how good the Skordalia dip was. I hadn’t tried it before and liked the idea of a potato dip. It was amazing and went incredible well with the hot pita they brought out. The pita also came with big chunks of a slightly sweet white loaf. The other dips we had were Taramasalata, Hommus and a Beetroot dip. We also had a serve of Saganaki. They were all very nice.
We had discussed what we were going to have for main course even before we had arrived and that was a set banquet. This did sound amazing but also a lot of food. We ended up choosing the main part of the banquet separately as mains. We went with the meat platter, seafood platter, and side of fries. As expected the mains were amazing. Even though everyone was full the only thing left was one lamb cutlet.
The service was friendly but could have been a little more attentive which is the only reason we didn’t give 8 stars. In the end we gave Mezethes Greek Taverna 7 stars.
