That Greek Tavern

That Greek Tavern

9 Stars (9 / 10)

On Saturday night we went to another one of our local restaurants in Malvern Rd called That Greek Tavern. After being unsuccessful getting in last weekend we called during the day this time to book a table. It was lucky we did because we got the last table available.

When we arrived we were promptly seated and given menus and a water bottle on the table. There were quite a few tables already seated and eating, and through the night we realised there were even more people upstairs.

To start we ordered the grilled octopus to share. It came out quickly and was hot off the grill. It had a fantastic flavour and a great texture, not at all tough. It came on a bed of lettuce with a lot of oil, however it wasn’t too overpowering.

For our main course we ordered the combination lamb and chicken open gyros platter plus a side of fries to share. The gyros platter came with pita bread, greek salad and tzataziki.

The meat was absolutely delicious as was everything else. Whether eaten individually or all together, everything was perfectly flavoured.

Before leaving the restaurant we had already decided we would have to come back another night (with a big appetite or some friends!) to try out the set menu which includes a selection of entrees, gyros, and desserts.

As well as the food being wonderful the service was attentive and very friendly. We had such a great night and given the restaurant is within walking distance of our house, we came away giving it a rating of 9 stars.

Bonus review – Magnum ice cream

On the way home we walked past the local IGA and bought some magnums to have for dessert. Trent got a classic magnum and I went for one of the newer flavours Hazelnut.

As always the classic didn’t disappoint and Trent thoroughly enjoyed his.

I was a little hesitant to try the new flavour as I have been disappointed in the past. Fortunately I was pleasantly surprised this time. It had a great hazelnut flavour although the ice cream definitely wasn’t as creamy as the classics range normally is.

I would recommend the hazelnut flavour if you were looking to try something new. But I wouldn’t choose it over a classic!
