Virginia had organised a date night Thursday night and all I knew was that it started at 6:00pm in the CBD. We took the train to Flinders Street together and when we came out of the station we started walking towards the Arts precinct. Once we got over the bridge we started walking towards Hamer Hall but passed the entry of that and went into Fatto Bar & Cantina. We were taken to our table and once seated Virginia pulled out tickets to Tommy Emmanuel at Hamer Hall and that’s why she’d chosen Fatto Bar & Cantina for dinner.
Not long after we sat down our waitress asked us if we were going to a show and what time it was to make sure we made it. Given Fatto’s location it is a great pre-show dinner place.
They have a special pre-theatre menu where you can choose 2 courses for $45pp or 3 courses for $55pp from a selection of small dishes, medium dishes or something sweet to finish. It will come as no surprise that we decided to share. We both chose the 2 dish option and went for a medium dish and something sweet. For our medium dishes we ordered lasagne and the sirloin steak. We also ordered a side of chips that came with house seasoning (which was fantastic) and aioli. The steak was cooked well while the lasagne was underwhelming but still enjoyable.
For dessert we ordered the selection of gelati and the tiramisu. The gelati was nice but the tiramisu lacked the coffee flavour we expected. The tiramisu also had too much cocoa on top causing a couple of coughing sessions.
I found the tables too close to each other making it a little too cosy with the tables either side. Overall if you are planning on going to a show then Fatto Bar & Cantina is a good pre-show option however I wouldn’t go there especially for the food.
P.S. Tommy Emmanuel was amazing. Thanks for a great date night V.
